Fire-breathing entry wins big

Warkworth Floral Art Club members have brought home a host of awards from the recent Auckland Area competition, including the coveted title of Designer of the Year.

Wellsford’s Deirdra Anderson, a junior member of the club, was named Auckland Area Designer of the Year for her breath-taking entry, a majestic dragon named Pearl. The intricate design, which filled a one-square-metre space, featured a dragon curled around a central tree, adorned with handmade crepe paper flowers and pearl-studded scales.

Deirdra also took home a Creativity Award, impressing judges with her attention to detail, striking colour choices and imaginative interpretation of the competition theme, Fantasia.

The club’s celebrations didn’t stop there. Experienced member Lynne Causer earned third place for her sophisticated creation made from rolled book pages draped with cream and golden roses.

Additional accolades included a trophy for Club with the Most Entries, an award for Best Use of Leaves, and a second place for the Mask and Fan Club Entry, among several other individual placings.

“The level of skill and creativity displayed by our members was truly inspiring,” a club spokesperson said. “We are delighted to see both seasoned and new members achieve such wonderful results.”

The Warkworth Floral Art Club meets at Matakana Hall on the third Friday of each month and welcomes new members. Members’ October entries, themed Halloween, will be on display at midday on October 31. For more information, contact Delwyn at 021 257 2202.
