The Leigh community will celebrate a milestone this Easter Saturday, as Leigh Community Preschool marks its 50th anniversary with a special gala event to raise funds for the future of the early childhood centre.
Organisers hope the celebration will raise $50,000 to honour the preschool’s half-century and help ensure it can continue supporting local families for generations to come.
Community-run and operating as a not-for-profit organisation, the preschool has spent five decades helping young learners develop confidence, friendships and a lifelong love of learning.
The anniversary gala promises a day of entertainment and activities for all ages. There will be live music, bouncy castles, games, community stalls, a silent auction and quick-fire raffles throughout the day. A giant ice slide is also expected to be a highlight.
The preschool has deep roots in the community and shares strong ties with nearby Leigh School.
Centre manager Pamela Kane says many local families have been connected to the preschool across multiple generations, creating a close-knit network of parents, teachers and supporters.
“Teachers, both long-serving and new, are the heart of the preschool. Their dedication and care have played a key role in shaping the early years of countless children in the area,” Kane says.
While the event celebrates the past 50 years, organisers say it is also about looking ahead. Like many small community services, Leigh Preschool relies heavily on local support to remain operational. Funds raised through the gala will go directly toward maintaining the preschool.
Past families, current parents, local businesses and community members are all invited to attend. Those unable to make it to the event are also encouraged to contribute through sponsorship, auction items or donations.
Organisers say the goal is simple – to celebrate the preschool’s legacy while helping it thrive for the next 50 years.
The gala will be held at Leigh School on Saturday April 4, from 10am to 3pm.
