Puhoi market in full bloom

The Puhoi Village Market is gearing up for the summer with a new venue, more stalls and a focus on local produce.

Volunteer market manager Pip Beagley confirmed the market will kick off on Sunday, October 5 in the Puhoi Community Orchard and River Park (at Puhoi Pioneers Domain), from 9am to 1pm.

It will then run on the first Sunday of every month throughout summer with a special twilight Christmas edition on Saturday, November 15, and for St Patrick’s Day (with extra bric-a-brac stalls) on March 14, both from 4pm to 8pm.

“Because it’s outside and in the orchard, there’s a bit more space to move, so we’re treating it as more of a destination market,” Beagley says.

The larger site means more stallholders and food producers can take part, offering everything from fresh fruit and vegetables to local honey, olive oil, sauces, mushrooms and bananas, as well as arts and crafts.

A wider range of food trucks will also be on hand for those wanting to enjoy a snack or some lunch.

“Our focus is on keeping it as local as possible. We want people to be able to do their shopping but also hang out, enjoy some food and then explore the rest of the village – the historic pub, the tearooms, the heritage museum or the kayaks. The idea is to make a day of it in Puhoi.”

Run entirely by volunteers, the Puhoi Village Market prides itself on being a true community event and all are welcome.
