Treemendous display to give museum fundraising a lift

Santa is setting an early course for Warkworth this month to make one of his first stops in NZ – the ever-popular Treemendous Christmas Tree Display at Warkworth’s old Masonic Hall, which opens on Saturday, November 29.

Members of the Lions Club of Kowhai Coast will be busy over the next couple of weeks digging out masses of tinsel and decorations in every shape, size and colour to dress the Baxter Street hall in festive garb to suit every taste.

As well as trees large and small, there will be Christmas toys, wall hangings, a toy train and metres and metres of twinkling fairy lights, transforming the space into the ultimate grotto for Santa to meet his young fans daily until Sunday, December 7.

Entry costs $4 per adult or $1 for children, with all proceeds this year going to Warkworth District Museum’s project to install a lift. Treemendous displays generally raise up to $5000 for various local good causes.

Museum manager and curator Victoria Joule says the Lions’ generosity to the museum will provide a welcome boost to its lift fund, which she says will probably need at least $100,000 to make it happen.

Treemendous will be open daily from 10am to 5pm, except on both Sundays, when it will close at 3pm.

Santa will be in attendance between 2pm and 5pm from Monday to Friday, from 10am to midday and from 1pm to 3pm on Saturdays and Sundays, or otherwise by arrangement with event organisers.

Pop-up shop also boosting funds for lift

Warkworth Museum’s campaign to raise enough money to install a lift in the main building at Parry Kauri Park is also being given a boost from a pop-up op shop.

The secondhand goods store is at 14 Neville Street, formerly Pets North, next to the Warkworth Inn and across the road from Mahurangi Matters. It is currently open on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday between 10am and 4pm.

Anyone who has items to donate for sale at the pop-up op shop can call Lois or Clive Burton on 027 495 1760.

Warkworth District Museum also has a Givealittle page for anyone wanting to donate cash to its lift and renovation fund:
