Virtuoso pianist Chen to celebrate French composers

Tres bien! Pianist John Chen’s all-French classical concert comes to Warkworth.

Warkworth Music, in partnership with Chamber Music New Zealand, is proud to present Kiwi-Malaysian pianist John Chen, who will be performing an all-French programme at the Warkworth Town Hall on Saturday, June 28, from 4pm.

He’ll play masterpieces including Francis Poulenc’s Three Novelettes, Henri Duparc’s Four Melodies, César Franck’s Prelude, Chorale and Fugue, Gabriel Fauré’s Theme and Variations, and Camille Saint-Saëns’ Six Etudes, Opus 111.

Part of a nationwide tour by Chen, the concert is also a celebration of the beautiful simplicity and melodic romanticism that a solo piano can achieve, and promises to be something special.

Having become the youngest-ever winner of the Sydney International Piano Competition in 2004 at the age of 18, Chen has performed with most of the major symphony orchestras in Australia and New Zealand.

He studied with Rae de Lisle at the University of Auckland, where he obtained his Master of Music, and attained an Artist Diploma at Colburn Conservatory in Los Angeles under John Perry.

Chen has made recordings of works by Henri Dutilleux, Claude Debussy and Maurice Ravel for online classical music library and record label Naxos, as well as the Australian classical radio station ABC Classic.

Now he’s about to share his passion for 20th century French composers with audiences across New Zealand.

C’est magnifique!
