AT signals further intersection changes

Work is underway on this Whangaparāoa Road intersection, and there are also plans for Karepiro Drive.

Auckland Transport (AT) contractors began work on changes to the intersection of Whangaparāoa Road, Main Street and Tower Hill on October 26.

AT sought feedback from the public about this scheme at the end of last year (HM June 17, 2020)

The project came about due to an increase in the number of pedestrians using the intersection and targets pedestrian safety.

The work adds pedestrian crossing links and will convert the slip lane into Main St into a signalised left turn.

AT aims to have the work completed by December 10. It has funding support from the regional fuel tax.

Karepiro Drive lights proposed

AT is proposing to put lights at the Whangaparāoa Road/Karepiro Drive intersection. The scheme is at the design stage, with the proposed plan expected to incorporate safe cycle options. An AT spokesperson says the public will be consulted on the proposed design, when it’s complete, in the next couple of months. The plan is to start construction in the next financial year (2022/23).
