This is Conservation Week and community environmental groups across the Hibiscus Coast are hard at work protecting our natural spaces – restoring native habitats, protecting wildlife and improving water quality. However, many of these groups operate on tight budgets and limited resources, balancing hands-on work with the ongoing need to secure support.
What they need is not just funding. Groups are looking for practical help, including skills, equipment, vehicles and volunteer time. Even a few hours on a planting day or working bee can make a difference.
Planting season is also approaching, with community events set to begin across Auckland in early June, including at Shakespear Regional Park. Volunteers can help with planting days or site preparation during the week.
