Forestry fire prompts call for urgent council action

Linus Wood says the blaze could have been much worse. A scrub fire started by Auckland Council contractors at the old closed Ti Point landfill and forestry site has led to urgent calls for action to restore the land and make it safe as soon as possible. The blaze on November 5 was started as workers from south Auckland prepared to fell around 100 old pine trees on the southern edge of a clearing once used to race cars and currently leased by Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust.
