Eighteen-year-old naturalist and conservationist Joseph Knight will be the guest speaker at a Restore Rodney East (RRE) annual general meeting at the Old Masonic Hall in Warkworth on Wednesday, September 23, starting at 7pm.
During his presentation, Knight will share his experiences as well as how he uses the iNaturalist platform to explore, identify and document New Zealand’s biodiversity.
Restore Rodney East facilitator Sarah Churchouse said RRE has had a positive year, with a major highlight being the co-hosting of the Auckland Regional Hui alongside Predator Free NZ, with support from Auckland Council.
“It was a great opportunity to showcase our local network, connect environmental groups from across the region and share knowledge,” she said.
RRE also moved into a new facility in Snells Beach, providing a more suitable base for bringing its equipment, resources and support services together.
Looking ahead, one of RRE’s priorities will be developing the State of the Rohe Report, which involves collating information on biodiversity, restoration and environmental work across Rodney East.
“The aim is to track progress over time and help identify where future effort is most needed,” Churchouse said.
“We will also focus on promoting participation from young people and schools, while making it easier for local people to turn good environmental ideas into lasting action and achieve more by working together.”
The AGM is open to all environmental groups in the Rodney East area.
During the formal part of the meeting, all attendees are welcome to speak and ask questions, but only registered members are entitled to vote through their representatives.
