Auckland Council has relaunched its “pothole promise”, aiming to repair 95 per cent of reported potholes on busy arterial and regional roads within 24 hours, while potholes on other sealed roads will be repaired within five working days.
Any road or footpath issue posing an immediate risk to people or property should be reported with the location – ideally a specific address or landmark – and a description of the problem, such as a pothole or uneven footpath.
Maintenance covers all assets within the public road reserve, which extends from property line to property line.
Council is responsible for more than 7800km of sealed roads, including 1400km of regional arterial roads, which carry an average of 10,000 vehicle movements a day.
According to council, 642 potholes were repaired in four weeks during last year’s campaign, while more than 600km of sealed roads were resurfaced last year.
