Properties prepare for market

The sale of 23 Auckland Council owned properties on Whangaparāoa and Brightside Roads is moving forward, with its property arm, Panuku Developments, currently looking to appoint a sales agent.

The properties, at 472-502 Whangaparāoa Road and 4-6 Brightside Road in Stanmore Bay, were identified as “surplus” and therefore suitable for disposal by Council two years ago – a fact made public by Hibiscus Matters. The properties are zoned Residential – Single House. Because these adjoining sites are on a busy stretch of road, there were concerns expressed by councillors and local board members, that they could be amalgamated by a developer.

However, Eke Panuku Assets & Delivery general manager, Marian Webb, told the paper last week that “there are no development outcomes related to the sale of these properties – they will be sold as is”.

“We are not expecting interest in purchasing multiple sites for large scale developments due to the typography of the land and plan changes required,” Webb said. “There is also a lack of support for intensification in the area given the busy main road location.”

Before going on the market, Panuku had to offer the properties back to former owners, as they were originally acquired under the Public Works Act for road widening.

Webb says one former owner is keen to purchase their site.
