Warkworth to Te Hana motorway procurement on track

The procurement process for the Warkworth to Te Hana section of the Northland Corridor is progressing on schedule, with a preferred bidder expected to be announced early next year, according to the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi (NZTA).

NZTA confirmed that three shortlisted consortia are currently advancing through the Request for Proposals (RFP) stage.

The three shortlisted consortia are:

• Northway: Made up of Acciona Concesiones S.L., abrdn Global Sustainable Infrastructure GP IV Ltd and Acciona Construction New Zealand

• Go>North: Made up of Vinci Highways S.A.S., John Laing, Vinci Construction Grands Projets S.A.S., Vinci Construction GeoInfrastructure S.A.S. and HEB Construction Limited

• Together North: Made up of Plenary Origination Pty, Webuild S.p.A, WBCA Pty, Gamuda Engineering Pty and Service Stream Holdings Pty

Each will submit full proposals by the end of this year for the financing, design, construction, management and maintenance of the new motorway section, which will be delivered under a Public Private Partnership (PPP).

Following submission of the RFPs, NZTA will begin “a rigorous evaluation and preferred bidder selection process”.

After the preferred bidder is confirmed, the contract is expected to be awarded next July, subject to successful contract negotiations.

The chosen consortium will then begin detailed design and early construction works later next year.

NZTA said this section of the corridor had been prioritised for delivery “as it is the most advanced section in terms of designation, consents and property acquisition”.
