Witnesses question need for landfill at all

The point was made that landfills are yesterday’s solution to waste disposal.

The question of why a new landfill is being pursued, as opposed to more modern alternatives, has arisen throughout the Environment Court case, most recently during the planning and cultural evidence.

Andrew Brown, a chartered town planner from the UK now living in NZ and working as planning manager for Ngāti Whātua Orakei, gave a snapshot of what’s happening in Europe when he gave evidence during an online session on March 31.
