Integrated Catchment Plan Workshop

Creating a community-led integrated catchment plan is our opportunity to imagine bold, new solutions for the future.

We want you to be part of the conversation – considering how the Matakana and Waikumete/Glen Eden Rivers, Sandspit estuary and Kawau Bay might look like in three years, 30 years or 300 years.

Should we be able to harvest shellfish at Sandspit Estuary? Should we feel confident that our homes, roads and infrastructure will be resilient during heavy rainfall? Should our children’s children be able to swim at Matakana wharf?

We want to learn what your thoughts are about the rivers, streams and estuary that form the Matakanakana catchment; hear the stories that connect you to the rivers and understand what is important to you about the future of this environment.

This is the first of three public workshops to discuss the future of our catchment. The outcome will be a publicly accessible community-led catchment plan that can be used to:

  • Provide a clear, shared direction for future catchment actions
  • Help communities, landowners, local hapu, industry and agencies work together effectively
  • Provide a single source of information to support planning and decision-making. Available as a publicly accessible live online resource
  • Source scientific data, local knowledge, mātauranga Māori and best practice examples to identify practical actions to improve water quality, biodiversity, and resilience
  • Support long-term outcomes such as: improved water quality from hills to the harbour, healthier ecosystems and increased biodiversity, more resilient communities and livelihoods

You don’t need to live within the catchment. If you care about the catchment, you belong in this conversation. The community-led integrated catchment plan will be developed with inclusion, listening and shared purpose.

There will be refreshments to keep up your energy.
