Enrolment push ahead of election

Efforts to ensure New Zealanders are ready to vote in this year’s general election are stepping up, with more than two million enrolment reminder emails being sent this month.

Electoral Commission director of strategic engagement and partnerships Shane Whitfield said enrolment packs were posted to 3.6 million voters last month, but many had been returned because people had moved.

“If you didn’t receive a pack, it means you are not enrolled or need to update your address,” he said.

Enrolment hubs are also opening around the country, including in Whangārei, to help people enrol or update their details in person.

Voters must enrol or update their details by midnight on October 4 to receive an EasyVote card. The final enrolment deadline is midnight on October 25.

Voting begins on October 26, ahead of election day on November 7. People can check or update their details at vote.nz or call 0800 36 76 56.
