Dapper riders celebrate success

Dapperly dressed riders, and classic and vintage motorcycle enthusiasts came together in Ruakākā on May 17 for the annual Distinguished Gentleman Rider event.

Distinguished Gentleman Rider (DGR) host John Pearse is celebrating another successful turnout at the annual fundraising event, with more than $19,000 raised for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

A total of 81 riders took part in a 20km classic and vintage motorbike ride from Ruakākā to Marsden Point, with plenty of spectators cheering on the dapperly dressed riders from the roadside.

“The weather was fantastic, the bikes are amazing, but the best part was the smiles and laughter that never stopped,” Pearse says.

Established in Sydney in 2012, DGR was created by Mark Hawwa as a unique way to bring people together for a common cause. The ride, held in countries around the world on May 17, has since become an international phenomenon.

Pearse paid tribute to those behind the scenes of the successful event, held in Ruakākā for only the second time, and says he hopes it inspires others to join in the future.

“The event would not be a success without the sponsors and volunteers, all with big hearts and enthusiasm,” he says. “This event is held every May around the world, so write it into your memory banks for next year.”
