Residents in the Warkworth and Matakana area responded generously to a recent appeal by Woven Earth for used furniture and home décor in good condition.
The donations were collected on behalf of families affected by family violence. Since 2019, close to 1000 homes have been furnished, averaging four a week, and the need is not diminishing.
The local appeal was coordinated by Kelle McWatt.
“The founder of Woven Earth has personal experience with what these families are going through so it isn’t just about furnishing homes, it’s about turning them into loving homes creating spaces that restore dignity and nurture healing, especially for children,” Kelle says.
“We ask people to only give what they would be happy to pass on to a family member or friend – we want the donations to be in good condition.”
As well as furniture, they accept homewares, household goods, toys, books, school supplies and sports equipment, as well as new linen, towels and appliances.
“Together, we’re breaking the cycle of family violence and creating lasting change in our communities. We currently do two collections a year, but I’d love to get this up to three.”
Kelle thanked Green With Envy on Matakana Road for being one of the drop off points.
