The Mangawhai Heads Volunteer Lifeguard Service has been granted a variation on its Licence to Occupy an area in Olsen Avenue where it owns two storage shed. The sheds house essential search and rescue equipment including an IRB. However, manoeuvring the IRB and other rescue gear across the grassed area in front of the sheds proved difficult, especially during emergency deployments. To address this, MHVLS received consent in 2023 to construct a concrete pad, which was outside the existing LTO. The variation means the licenced area now includes the concrete pad, plus an extension and bollards which will prevent vehicles blocking the movement of rescue equipment.
