Auckland-based postgraduate institute academyEX has launched a nationwide initiative aimed at boosting artificial intelligence (AI) capability across New Zealand businesses while extending those benefits to the charity sector.
The AI for Good programme operates on a one-for-one model – for every AI for Business licence purchased by a company, academyEX will provide a free licence to a registered charity or non-profit organisation. The move is designed to address what founder Frances Valintine describes as growing AI exclusion.
“When more people understand AI and how to use it safely and effectively, we create a workforce and society better prepared for the future,” Valintine said.
The initiative centres on academyEX’s AI for Business platform, an online learning system offering structured courses, tools, and resources updated weekly to build organisation-wide AI literacy.
Valintine said while businesses are rapidly investing in AI skills, many charities lack the resources to keep pace. Early trials with organisations including Ronald McDonald House and Canteen helped ensure the programme was practical for real-world non-profit environments.
The campaign invites businesses to nominate charities or select from a curated list of partners.
