NZ First list MP Jenny Marcroft has had a Member’s Bill on gender pulled from the Biscuit Tin. The bill seeks to legally define a ‘woman’ and a ‘man’ based on biology.
“It’s needed to establish legal clarity and consistency across the legal framework,” Marcroft says. “Progressive politics and wokeism has prioritised ideology over reality. If you can’t define what a woman is, then you can’t protect women’s rights.”
Marcroft wants single sex bathrooms and changing rooms to remain protected and private, puberty blockers banned for children, and “woke relationships and sexuality guidelines” removed from schools to stop indoctrination.
“It’s also about improving safety and fairness in sport for women and girls,” she says.
The bill is only a proposal at this stage, and will need go through readings and a select committee process, before it is put to the Parliament for a vote.
