Tracey-Lee Repia, Labour’s candidate to contest the Kaipara ki Mahurangi seat at the general election, has withdrawn.
Ron Young, Labour committee chairperson for the electorate, said: “Tracey-Lee has withdrawn her candidacy for personal reasons. The Labour Party is in the process of choosing a new candidate. As soon as that is confirmed I’ll let you know.”
Repia (Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara, Ngāpuhi, Ngāti Porou and Ngāti Uenuku ki Whanganui) was chosen in April to fight for the seat, currently held by National’s Chris Penk.
After her selection was announced, she said she wanted to see a New Zealand built on kindness towards others, social justice for all, reducing the cost of living, a strong localised circular economy and education system, environmental integrity and ensuring Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations are honoured.
At the 2023 election, Penk won convincingly, polling 28,281 votes to second-placed Guy Wishart (Labour) with 8822 votes. Wishart is currently the chairperson of the Rodney Local Board.
The general election will be held on November 7.
