Warkworth Library is hosting a series of free events to help people and families cope with death and its aftermath.
National Dying Matters Week is a New Zealand-wide event initiated by Go With Grace and takes place from September 7-13.
Go With Grace is a free resource created to support people in navigating death, and end-of-life planning.
It encourages open conversations about death and dying by providing information, resources, and guidance on a wide range of topics, including family vigils, natural funerals, personal wishes, legal matters, legacy planning, Advance Care Planning, and much more.
Dying Matters Week aims to empower people to make informed and meaningful decisions about the future, both for themselves and for those they care about.
Go With Grace addresses these important matters early,so people can focus on living life more fully, knowing their wishes and plans are in place.
To support Dying Matters Week, Warkworth Library is hosting a series of free public events;
• September 7: Creating a Better End-of-Life Experience – Sherie Sullivan (local Doula)
• September 9: Advance Care Planning – Maria (Harbour Hospice)
• September 13: Estate Planning – Wendy Hampton (author -The Estate Planner Don’t Leave a Mess, Leave a Legacy)
• Death Café on Sunday September 13 at 1.30pm (regular library monthly event)
Auckland Council Libraries are organising events in partnership with Honohono Tātou Katoa: Creating Compassionate Communities Trust and Mercy Hospice. Check Auckland libraries website for other Dying Matter Events.
Monthly Death Café at Warkworth Library
Warkworth Library hosts a monthly Death Café. This is part of an international movement that began in 2011 in England with Death Cafés held regularly in 10 Auckland Council libraries.

A statement from Auckland Libraries says: “A Death Café is not a grief support or counselling session. Instead, it offers a welcoming space where people can engage in meaningful conversations about the natural cycle of life and death over tea, coffee, and good company.
“Whether you have a strong interest in end-of-life matters, personal questions of your own, or are simply curious to listen and learn, all are welcome. These conversations can help us live with greater clarity, connection, and intention. The sessions are open to all members of the community.”
