Nine standing for four local board slots

The candidates have been announced and the signs are going up for this year’s local government elections.

Voting opens next month to elect the mayor of Auckland, 20 ward councillors for the governing body and members of 21 local boards for the next three years.

Rodney voters only get the chance to vote for the mayor and local board members, since sitting councillor Greg Sayers has been elected unopposed. At the last election in 2022, he faced competition from four other candidates.

For Rodney Local Board, the subdivision boundaries have changed in a bid to provide better representation for rural residents. Instead of three members for Warkworth and one for Wellsford, there are now two members for Warkworth and two for the new, bigger Northern Rodney subdivision.

There are four candidates for Warkworth – Tim Holdgate, David Robb, Taabeta Tebau and Ivan Wagstaff.

In Northern Rodney, there are five contenders – Greg Doherty, Josh Grimstock, Paul Manton, James Pemberton and Colin Smith*.

Mahurangi Matters will have detailed information on those standing and election timings in our special local election feature on September 1.
