Parking limits standardised

Changes are on the way for parking in Warkworth’s town centre, with a proposal to introduce a consistent two-hour parking limit across most of the area by last month.

The move comes in response to a request from One Mahurangi Business Association, which has called for simpler and more uniform parking rules to better serve local businesses and visitors.

Currently, the town centre features a mix of parking restrictions, including P60, P90 and P120 zones, which can be confusing for drivers. Under the proposed changes, these varying limits will be replaced with a standard P120 (two-hour) parking zone throughout the area.

Short-term parking spaces such as P10 zones and designated loading areas will remain unchanged, as will the hours of enforcement, which operate from 8am to 6pm, seven days a week.

Auckland Transport officials say the shift to a single parking time limit will make it easier for the public to understand where and how long they can park.

“Having one consistent rule across the town centre reduces confusion and helps ensure fair access to parking,” a spokesperson said.

The plan also includes extending the P120 restriction to currently unrestricted areas, such as Mill Lane, bringing it in line with the rest of the zone.

New signage will be installed at entry and exit points to clearly mark the parking zone, along with additional signs within the town centre to reinforce the restrictions. Existing markings for P60, P90, and arrow-based P120 spaces will be removed.

The changes are expected to improve turnover of parking spaces, making it easier for visitors who need short-term access to shops and services.

Authorities say efforts will be made to minimise inconvenience while the changes are implemented with road markings and the installation of new signage.

Drivers are reminded to park considerately, avoid blocking driveways, and adhere to parking rules. Vehicles parked illegally risk fines or towing.
