Police say they are continuing an investigation to establish whether there is any criminal culpability in relation to the fire that destroyed a diesel repair workshop on State Highway 1 in Te Hana earlier this month.
A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said the agency’s investigation into the fire was inconclusive and has been closed.
However, Police said their investigation is separate to Fire and Emergency’s inquiry and appealed to anyone with information to come forward.

Firefighters were called to the workshop at 5.35pm on June 4. More than 30 firefighters from eight volunteer brigades responded to the blaze, with a section of State Highway 1 closed while crews worked to contain the fire.
The fire was largely extinguished the same evening, although crews remained at the scene overnight and returned the following day to deal with hotspots.
No homes were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
