Warkworth Men’s Rebus Club has been around since 1985, and is primarily a friendship and fellowship club for retired men.
It has visiting speakers on a variety of interesting topics and provide a forum where older men can meet up, make friends and have a bit of social interaction beyond their homes.
They meet every third Monday of the month at Shoesmith Hall, between 10am and noon.
Recently the club had a fascinating talk by Graeme Crosby, a local identity who in his heyday was the World TT motorcycle champion.
Other guests have included Sir Graham Henry, rugby writer Phil Gifford, Karl Samson ,ex-Corrective Services, Bill Hohepa, Judge Johan Slabbert and Kelvin Davis, author, Vietnam vet and deep-sea diver.
Dr Riley Moynes, in a TED Talk on YouTube, categorises the evolution of retirement into four phases. Vacation, Loss of purpose, Engagement, New goals.
Warkworth Men’s Rebus Club is an ideal opportunity to meet other active retired men in a low-key environment, be entertained and re-engage. Currently we have about 75 members. We don’t fund raise or run activities other than for members.
