St John Kaiwaka store is set to permanently close at the end of the month, with high operational costs to blame.
“It’s a difficult and unfortunate decision to have to make,” Hato Hone St John National Retail Manager Emma Stokes says.
“We know people love to visit our retail stores, and the Kaiwaka store is no exception. This was a tough call to make, but after careful consideration, it was determined that it is no longer financially sustainable to keep the store running.
“As much as we’d like to keep the store open, the expenses to do so are too great for a charitable organisation such as ours.”
The organisation says it remains committed to having a presence in the area, with emergency ambulances supporting Kaiwaka and the wider Kaipara region, and encourages customers to visit the Mangawhai store.
“We want to extend our thanks to the hardworking store manager and volunteers who have kept the shop running. It’s people like this that make Hato Hone St John who we are. We also acknowledge the many customers who have visited the Kaiwaka store over the years; their support has enabled us to give back to the local community.”
St John Kaiwaka store’s Dianne Wright was approached for comment but was unable to provide any further information.
The shop is running a clearance sale before closing on May 30.
