Time running out for Buy local Give local donations

There’s only a week to go – donations need to be in by Monday, December 5.

Hibiscus Matters is once again collecting Christmas treats for those in need, as well as supporting local businesses, with our Buy Local Give Local appeal and items have begun rolling in – many thanks!

We are asking you, our readers, to donate food or vouchers for Coast families who might otherwise struggle to make Christmas festive.

This year, we are sharing the love (and all that wonderful treat food) between Love Soup in Whangaparāoa, the Hibiscus Coast Community House foodbank in Ōrewa and Salt Community Trust’s Silverdale-based foodbank.

We are looking for the sort of food you would like to see on your Christmas table, or under the tree, and vouchers from any local businesses, including supermarkets, petrol stations, book or toy stores and so on (list below). To support local businesses, we hope you make those purchases from outlets on the Coast.

Items can be brought into our office at 21 Florence Ave, Ōrewa, and placed under our Christmas tree anytime (during working hours) between now and Monday, December 5. This allows those agencies to deliver them in time for Christmas.

Please note, we are NOT able to accept any wrapped, or unwrapped, gifts.

We are always overwhelmed by the generosity of this community – thanks in advance for your support.

How to donate • Bring food items and vouchers (no wrapped or unwrapped presents please) to put under the tree at our office, 21 Florence Ave, Ōrewa (corner of Alice Ave, opposite the AA). • Have a whip around at work or when your sports or community group meets and use the money to buy supermarket or petrol vouchers. • Businesses have been generous in the past – providing vouchers for their services and donations. These are very welcome. • Collection closes on Monday, December 5.

Shopping list – Anything you donate is welcome – but the agencies particularly need: supermarket vouchers, petrol vouchers, Christmas puddings, chocolate treats , biscuits, bags of lollies, tinned fruit, jellies, instant puddings, pikelet or cake mix
