Trail event set for Waipū Caves Farm Park

Competitors can explore the Waipū Caves Farm Park on foot at the trail run and walk event on June 28.

Runners and walkers will have the chance to explore the rugged terrain of Waipū Caves Farm Park at the inaugural trail run and walk event this month.

Set across 130 hectares of private conservation land, the event will take participants through native forest trails, farm tracks, grass paddocks, valleys and rocky terrain.

There are options for all abilities, ranging from a 10km trail run to a 4.5km run or walk open to anyone aged five and over.

“Waipū Caves Farm Park is a private conservation and recreation park, so hosting public events like this is a natural fit,” owner Ian Fox says.

“We are here to help people get outdoors, enjoy nature and take part in fun and challenging activities.”

Participation is limited to 300 people. Fox says tickets are selling well and organisers are expecting the event to sell out.

The trail run and walk is the first in a series of monthly events planned at the park. A purpose-built mud run challenge, Mudmania, is scheduled for next month, while a hill climb challenge, spring colour and costume run and walk are also planned.

Food stalls will be available on the day, and Fox says the park is also exploring opportunities to host school cross-country events, running club activities and other community events in the future.

“I want to see regular small events in the community and at Waipū Caves Farm Park,” Fox says.

Waipu Caves Farm Park Run & Walk Series will be held on June 28. For more information, visit: waipucaves.nz/run-walk
