Waipu residents will have the opportunity to hear directly from Whangārei Mayor Ken Couper and connect with local organisations at an upcoming community meeting aimed at strengthening communication and collaboration across the township.
The meeting, hosted jointly by Promote Waipu, the Waipu Ratepayers Association and the Waipu 2000 Community Trust, will bring together residents, elected representatives and community groups under one roof.
Waipu 2000 Community Trust chair Graham Boult will chair the meeting.
He says the event has a twofold purpose. The first is to provide a platform for Mayor Couper to outline his vision for Whangārei District over the next three years, with a particular focus on issues and opportunities relevant to Waipu.
Following the mayor’s address, a 10-minute question time will be held. To ensure a broad range of topics can be covered, questions will be limited to one per subject.
The second part of the meeting will focus on community connection, with local groups invited to give short presentations. These will outline who they are, what they do and how local residents can get involved.
Alongside the three host organisations, groups invited to present include the Piroa Conservation Trust and local cycle and walkway groups, with further organisations encouraged to introduce themselves.
Organisers say the meeting is designed to foster stronger interaction between community groups, improve communication and help residents better understand the many ways they can participate in shaping Waipu’s future.
The evening will conclude with supper and informal networking, giving attendees the chance to continue conversations and build new connections within the community.
The meeting will be held at the Waipu Presbyterian Church hall on Monday February 2, starting at 7pm. All welcome.
