Warkworth Rotary embarks on membership drive

Despite being relatively new to Warkworth, Lindsay McCaw is keen to keep meeting people and learning about the community’s needs.

The Rotary Club of Warkworth will induct a new president for the 2026/27 term at a changeover dinner to be held in the Warkworth Hotel on Thursday June 25.

Lindsay McCaw has been a Rotarian for more than 30 years and has spent the past two years working in Warkworth, where his focus has been on reversing a decline in membership.

“We are one of the smallest clubs, with just eight active members,” he said.

“The idea is to grow, mainly so we can get involved in more projects. By the end of my term, I would like to have doubled our membership.

“Becoming president wasn’t something I ever set out to achieve, but I realised I could probably contribute some of my previous experience to the group we have here.”

As part of the path to increase membership, the incoming president says young people will be a key focus.

“We’re quite involved with Mahurangi College, offering scholarships, exchange trips and leadership training courses. We want to encourage and enable young people in this community to become the leaders of the future.”

McCaw believes the programmes have had a significant impact, changing the confidence and outlook of many participants, not only personally but also in terms of their commitment to the community.

Social media is another area McCaw would like to prioritise in order to increase participation. He says the club needs to take a more proactive approach to engaging with the community and attracting new members.

Despite the various strategies aimed at strengthening membership, McCaw says that the willingness to help others remains the main driving force behind Rotary in the years ahead.
