Three men appeared in North Shore District Court yesterday, charged with the murder of Jayden Mamfredos-Nair.
A homicide investigation has been underway since Jayden was reported missing from West Auckland on April 24, 2023.
Last October, Police searched a property in Young Access Road, Dairy Flat, occupied by Headhunters gang members, searching for Jayden’s body.
Further searching was underway last week at a Dairy Flat property, resulting in a body being located.
Detective Inspector McNeill of Waitematā CIB says Police enquiries to date make it likely that this is Jayden, although formal identification is still needed.
“This now brings an end to the search for Jayden, which has been ongoing for more than eight months, Detective Inspector McNeill says.
Last weekend, two arrests were made and the men, both aged 26, charged with Jayden’s murder. A third arrest, of a 20-year-old man, was made on Saturday night and he has also been charged with Jayden’s murder.
Detective Inspector McNeill acknowledged the determination of the investigation team, who never gave up in their efforts to locate Jayden.
“This has been a devastating ordeal for Jayden’s whānau, who are still coming to terms with their loss,” he said. “We hope that this brings them some closure, knowing that their boy can be returned to them and laid to rest.”
Detective Inspector McNeill says Police also acknowledge the public who assisted in providing information to the investigation.
Police cannot rule out further arrests.
