Bowls Ōrewa celebrates 75 years

Bowls Ōrewa is about to hit a milestone of 75 years on the greens on Saturday October 25. To celebrate, members (past and present) will gather for a special jubilee tournament and community open day later this month.

Over the past quarter century, the club has transformed from a quiet local venue into one of the country’s most vibrant bowling hubs. A state-of-the-art covered green now enables play in all weather, and the club regularly hosts national competitions.

But Bowls Ōrewa is more than sport. Every fortnight, local businesses take part in twilight “Business House” leagues, and the club has active youth engagement, teaching students and running community sessions to get more people onto the greens. For older members, adaptive equipment ensures everyone can continue to enjoy the game.

Looking ahead, the club recently secured a $600,000 grant to build a second covered green, expanding its all-weather facilities.

The club invites all past and present members to attend the tournament and celebrations on October 25 by registering. Email orewa.bowls@xtra.co.nz
