Building mastery recognised

Mike Greer Homes earned a Gold for a 230sqm show home that is described as well planned and flooded with natural light.

Talented builders whose work features all around the Hibiscus Coast were recognised in the regional Master Builders Association’s House of the Year awards and are now in the running for a national title.

A feature of many of the homes was how much could be achieved in a small footprint, while some in the $1m plus categories were praised for having both luxury and character. Two local winners made the Top 100.

Due to the changing situation with Alert Levels, the Top 100 will not be re-judged to find national winners. Instead, the homes will be judged based on the regional scores. Currently the national awards are to be presented on November 27 in Auckland.

Many in Milldale

The majority of the local awards went to houses in Milldale. Ten houses in that developing area received awards – half of them show homes and most in the lower price category – $450,000-$600,000.

Sentinel Homes North and West Auckland won Gold in the New Home up to $450,000 section for a single level 174sqm home with four bedrooms (pictured), as well as Silver for a show home and Bronze in the New Home $600,000-$750,000 category.
Maddren Homes won Gold, and the Show Home category, with a three-bedroom home, clad in cedar and aluminium, that includes a salt-water pool.
Stark Building reached the Top 100, was awarded Gold and won the Builder’s Own Home category for a four-bedroom home with wrap around decks. The 227sqm footprint includes two living areas and two bathrooms.
Gold went to Madison Park Homes in the New Home $450,000-$600,000 category for a 178sqm home that overcame challenges with clever design.

Silverdale shines Two Silverdale homes, both in the higher price bracket, received awards.

Weiti Bay, Matakatia and Manly

Two new builds on Whangaparāoa Peninsula each won Silver – in Matakatia, Yao Homes in the Builder’s Own Home category, pictured above, and in Manly, North Homes in the New Home $1m-$1.5m category. The Manly home was notable for its high tech systems that manage lighting, heating, security and audiovisual devices. It even enables the household’s vehicles to start – this won North Homes an additional Lifestyle award.
