Ferry upgrades planned

Improvements to ferry services, including the one from Gulf Harbour to and from the city are currently being considered.

An Auckland Transport (AT) spokesperson told the paper last week that improvements to the Gulf Harbour service are contained within a confidential business case application, currently being considered by Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency.

Although electric ferries are on AT’s radar, the Gulf Harbour route is a lot longer than other contracted ferry routes in Auckland, and is not (at this stage) able to be served by electric ferries.

The spokesperson says AT is looking at what a low emission model would look like for Gulf Harbour, and fleet replacement for the route is in the plan.
