This summer, Auckland’s rainbow flags will be flying high as Auckland Pride Festival returns throughout February 2026, offering a vibrant month-long celebration of takatāpui and rainbow communities across Tāmaki Makaurau. The event is free of charge for people to attend.
As the city’s flagship queer festival, Auckland Pride brings together art, performance, activism and connection with more than 130 events staged from Albany to Takanini, including exhibitions, workshops, performances and community gatherings at local Pride Proud Centres. The festival celebrates diversity, inclusion and belonging for people of all ages, identities and backgrounds. This year’s theme Ngā Uri E, which translates to “We are the descendants”, honours shared whakapapa and community journeys.
A highlight of Pride month is the iconic Big Gay Out, a free celebration of rainbow culture and community happening on Sunday, February 15 at Coyle Park, Point Chevalier,. One of Aotearoa’s biggest and most joyful outdoor events, Big Gay Out is hosted by the Burnett Foundation Aotearoa and draws crowds from around the region for a day of music, food, performance, stalls, health info and community fun.
The event offers buses to and from the venue, picking up people from Britomart and K Road in Auckland CBD. Tickets are $10 each for return bus fare and can be booked at https://biggayout.co.nz/big-gay-buses
From the Hibiscus Coast, catching NX1 buses will take you directly to Britomart, where the buses will connect to the Coyle Park venue.
