The Rotary Club of Whangaparāoa has raised more than $12,000 for local schools through its annual charity golf tournament.
The event was held on Friday, March 13 at Whangaparāoa Golf Club, with funds going to Gulf Harbour School, Whangaparāoa School and Stanmore Bay School.
The money will be used for sports equipment and horticultural projects. Eighteen teams of four players teed off at midday under fine conditions, playing Ambrose format, which allows golfers of mixed abilities to compete using handicaps.
The winning team was Good Keen Men.
Tournament director Rotary Club of Whangaparāoa member Dan Healey says the club is pleased with the result. “This is our biggest annual fundraising event and the club has distributed over $200,000 to local causes over the past 20 years,” he says. “We are hugely grateful to the players, businesses and club members who make it possible.”
The principal sponsor was Maygrove Retirement Village, with support from a range of local businesses. The June Gray Charitable Trust also contributed.
A prizegiving was held at the clubhouse, with awards for best and worst teams, along with raffle prizes.
