Have your say

Mayor Phil Goff is calling on Aucklanders to have their say on Auckland Council’s 2022/23 Annual Budget, which opened for public consultation recently.

The Mayor says the proposed budget is strongly focused on tackling the climate crisis while continuing to address financial pressures caused by Covid-19 and maintain high levels of investment in infrastructure.

He says the grim report by the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), released last week, shows urgent need for climate action.

“The IPCC report indicates that we are already at 1.1°C of global warming and our window of opportunity to avoid the very worst effects of climate change is closing fast,” Goff says.

Council is proposing a Climate Action Targeted Rate to deliver $1 billion of investment in new climate initiatives.

Consultation closes on March 28. After decisions are made in June, the final budget will be available at https://aucklandcouncil.govt.nz
