Kiwi Scuba Divers

Jeni Tassell

After 10 years of working in Auckland, Brent and Jeni Tassell have said ‘no more commuting’ and bought into the only full service dive store on the Hibiscus Coast, Kiwi Scuba Divers in Silverdale.

The couple had long been regular customers at the shop in Keith Hay Court when they decided to take their love of all things underwater to the next stage, first by building a dive boat and then going into business with Kiwi Scuba’s original owners, Grant and Shailina Searancke.

Now it’s Jeni and Brent at the Silverdale helm, with Jeni in the shop every day selling their comprehensive range of equipment and clothing for diving, snorkelling and spear fishing.

“We just love it,” Jeni says. “We live in Puhoi and worked in the city for 10 years, but just thought ‘that’s enough’. We’re really active divers and love running the dive trips.”

Jeni, Brent and Grant are all trained instructors, with decades of experience between them, not least Grant, who is an Instructor Trainer with more than 35 years of diving and teaching all over the world under his belt. They run a range of courses from beginners’ Learn to Dive right up to pro technical and free diving.

The Kiwi Scuba team has two dive boats and they run regular dive trips and charters throughout the Hauraki Gulf and beyond, with popular spots including Tiritiri Matangi, Kawau, Little Barrier, Hen and Chickens, Poor Knights and Mokohinau Islands.

The shop also services and tests all dive equipment and provides air, nitrox and trimix fills.
