Whangaparāoa College student Sacha Fu-Oughton of Gulf Harbour hit the 2025-26 athletics running, taking gold in the Under-16 hammer throw at the New Zealand Secondary Schools Athletics Championships held in Hastings in early December.
The 14-year-old threw 50.67m, her new personal best and says she has been steadily progressing with her skills working with Didier Poppe, the former coach of Olympic champion Dame Valerie Adams.
But there’s no slacking off over the break for her, she will continue training through the summer break in preparation for the Auckland Club Championships in March 2026.
“I couldn’t be more grateful to be blessed with the opportunities I have and the support of my family coach and friends,” she says.
