O Mahurangi Penlink September Update

State Highway 1 and Ara Weiti Road: Earthworks continue alongside State Highway 1 as crews shape the off-ramp on the western side. Along Ara Wēiti Road, the pavement layers from subgrade through to basecourse are being tested. At Link Road 1, the bridge is taking shape with the foundation and retaining wall almost complete. Work has started on the concrete bridge abutment and drainage is being installed.

Stillwater: This month, pavement construction will begin, along with the installation of roadside safety barriers and soil nails for bank stabilisation. From mid-September, the single-lane section with traffic lights will be extended while the new interchange connection is built. As part of this traffic management, vehicles will shift onto the original Duck Creek Road alignment and then onto the new overbridge.

At the Wēiti River Bridge, a temporary pedestrian bridge will go in later this month. This will give the team better access to Pier 4. Anyone using the navigable gap must call VHF CH73 at least 30 minutes beforehand. Concrete pours continue for Piers 3 and 4, while at Pier 1 an access tower is being installed and diaphragm work for the superstructure is under way.

Whangaparāoa: On the corner of Cedar Terrace and Whangaparāoa Road, earthworks and bank stabilisation are starting, along with wider drainage works. The retaining wall will remain to provide a safe barrier for pedestrians. At the future Beverley Road intersection, a temporary footpath is being installed while the current Whangaparāoa Road slip lane is realigned.
