Pedestrian critical after Red Beach crash

A pedestrian is in a critical condition after being struck by a van in Red Beach on Wednesday night.

Emergency services were called to Whangaparāoa Road shortly after 9pm following reports of a collision involving a van and a pedestrian.

Acting Detective Inspector Megan Goldie said the male pedestrian was found with critical injuries at the scene before being transported to Auckland City Hospital.

“The Serious Crash Unit attended the scene overnight, and an investigation is underway to establish how the crash occurred,” Goldie said.

The pedestrian, who is from the Whangaparāoa area, remained in a critical condition as Thursday morning.

Police said the driver of the van was uninjured.
