
The AIMS Games, one of New Zealand’s largest school sports events, drew more than 14,000 students to Tauranga this year, including strong contingents from Hibiscus Coast schools.
Whangaparāoa College sent its biggest group yet, with 88 students across nine teams in football, basketball, hockey, netball and rippa rugby. A further 13 students competed individually in sports such as gymnastics, cross country, mountain biking, surfing, canoeing, golf and orienteering. The group was supported by more than 50 staff and volunteers.
Ōrewa College fielded six teams, including netball, rippa rugby, water polo, football and basketball. More than 50 students also entered individual events in surfing, cross country, orienteering, mountain biking, rock climbing, swimming and hip hop dance.
Wentworth College was represented by 21 students, with teams in boys basketball and girls netball, plus competitors in canoe racing and swimming. The school acknowledged the efforts of parent managers and student coaches who supported the teams during the week.
