Softball Club scores new uniforms thanks to NZCT grant

The Hibiscus Coast Softball Club in Orewa is stepping out in style, thanks to a $13,998 grant from the New Zealand Community Trust (NZCT).

The funding will provide new uniforms for all teams – from Under 5s to senior grades – ensuring a consistent look across the club. Committee member Leon Smith says uniforms are about more than just clothing.

“They represent kotahitanga (unity), whanaungatanga (connection), and pride in the club.” The old kit was over six years old and no longer fit for purpose.

The upgrade is expected to boost team spirit, strengthen club culture, and improve the club’s visibility in the community.

NZCT’s Ben Hodges says the trust is proud to support clubs where players feel connected and part of something bigger. He adds that such grants are made possible through responsible gaming partnerships in Auckland. Under 17 player Ben Smith said: “Nothing says team bonding like matching laundry,” while Under 15 player Victoria Smith said they’d been “waiting for an upgrade for yonks.”
