Recently crowned A-League champions Auckland FC will visit Warkworth on Saturday, September 5, to take part in an Under 8/Under 9 football festival, bringing the Championship trophy with them.

The festival will feature clubs from across the North Shore, including Takapuna, North Shore United, Greenhithe and Hibiscus Coast.

Warkworth Football Club president George Moore said events like this are a fantastic opportunity to inspire young players while strengthening relationships between clubs across the region.

“It’s been another fantastic season for Warkworth Football Club, and we’re extremely pleased with the progress we’ve made both on and off the field,” Moore said. “The club continues to go from strength to strength, with strong membership growth and increasing participation across all age groups.”

The club has also enjoyed an outstanding season on the field, with tournament victories for its Under 9, Under 10, Under 11 and Under 10/Under 11 Girls teams and the Senior Men’s team is currently pushing for promotion after winning Harbour division 6 last season and deciding to play in division 3 this year.
Participation has also reached a new milestone.

The club now has 47 teams, from Under 5 grade through to the senior teams – the highest number in its history.

This includes four all-girls teams, compared with just one last season.

“The incredible growth of girls’ football has been one of the biggest success stories of this season. We will continue working to build and strengthen our girls’ teams, and we encourage any girl who is interested to get in touch with us – whether you’ve played before and would like to return, or you’ve always wanted to give football a try”.

“Looking ahead, we’re already planning for the off-season, with summer football competitions including five-a-side and seven-a-side formats, as well as player development programmes to keep players active throughout the year,” Moore said.

Off the field, volunteers, sponsors and local businesses have continued to invest in the club’s facilities, contributing to projects ranging from changing room maintenance and new storage solutions to a barbecue shelter, new goals and an upgraded hot water system.

“We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved this season and excited about what lies ahead as football continues to grow in Warkworth.”
