Warkworth Football Club hosted an Under 8 and Under 9 football festival, bringing together 32 teams for a day of sport, awards and community celebration
Young players also had the chance to pose for photos with Auckland FC’s trophies from last season’s A-League Men’s Championship and OFC Pro League Championship.
The day included an awards ceremony, with medals and certificates presented to each Warkworth Football Club team in the Under 8 and Under 9 age groups that took part in the season.
The 32 participating teams included eight from Warkworth and Hibiscus Coast FC, six from Greenhithe FC, six from North Shore United and four from Takapuna FC.
Warkworth Football Club president George Moore said it was the biggest football festival the club had ever hosted, reflecting its continued growth.
“The club continues to achieve, and most importantly, continues to bring our community together through football – and we’ve still got summer football to come,” Moore said.
“The atmosphere is fantastic. Seeing events like this, with so many young players and families involved, is exactly what community football is about.”
The day concluded with the Men’s First Team drawing 4-4 with Onehunga, securing promotion to Division Two.
