Bowls officers elected

Prize winners at the recent Bowls Warkworth annual presentation.

Bowls Warkworth held a single entry tournament of three games, sponsored by Goodyear Autocare and patron Joy Harper-Keeley, on King’s Birthday.

This was followed by prizegiving and the annual general meeting

The Jack Knowles Service Award went to Michael Newland, the club secretary who stood down after many years of service. Volunteer of the Year was awarded to David Roach for all the work he has put into the club behind-the-scenes.

The President’s Award, presented by John Hurdley, went to Kevin Brooking for the time he has spent attending to the green and grounds. It was noted that this was especially deserved as Brooking lived in Kaiwaka, a significant distance to travel each time he attended in Warkworth.

The election of officers resulted in Hugh Bateman becoming president, Brian George vice president and Lorraine Mann secretary. Also on the board are the club captains Guy Robson, Michelle Macdonald, Jane Watt and Wendy Stein. Hugh thanked the retiring members of the executive and past president John Hurdley for their service.

The meeting concluded with a sumptuous afternoon tea supplied by members.
