Yarn enthusiasts – knitters, crocheters, spinners and fibre artists – are being invited to mark Sunday, August 16, on their calendars for the return of the Kaipara Wool and Fibre Festival.
The annual event will be held at the Maungaturoto Country Club on Bickerstaffe Road, bringing together a wide range of independent yarn dyers, fibre producers and craft suppliers from across the region.
Festival organisers say the event offers visitors the chance to see, touch and purchase a colourful array of hand-dyed yarns, unspun fibre, spinning supplies, tools and accessories, all under one roof.
Large windows at the venue provide plenty of natural light, so colours and textures can be appreciated, while dedicated seating areas will give crafters the opportunity to relax, knit and chat throughout the day.
A wide variety of natural fibres will be available, including merino and other sheep breeds, alpaca, mohair and possum, with products ranging from raw fleece through to individually dyed yarns.
Organiser Val Faulkner says the festival has become a popular annual outing for fibre enthusiasts from across Northland and Auckland, offering the chance to meet talented local makers and discover unique products that are often difficult to find in retail stores.
More than 20 traders have already confirmed their attendance, including Wool on Wheels, Miro Yarns, Silverhill Alpacas, Gumtree Gully, Stoney Creek Farm, Kerdon Alpaca, Dye Happy, Fantail Farm Mohair, Fibre2Go, Twisted Zisters, Jumbuck Carding, Lovells Yarns, Roxy Fibres, Utakura Knits and Yarn, Crafted Stitch, Choice Yarns, Haven Ridge Limited, Kauri Hills (Ashford) and Apple Basket Quilts.
The festival be held at the Maungaturoto Country Club, 84 Bickerstaffe Road, on Sunday, August 16, from 10am to 3pm. Entry is free, with a gold coin donation requested for parking. An indoor café will be open throughout the day.
