NZ Boat Register has launched a new transfer-of-registration feature designed to preserve the digital history of recreational boats and marine equipment as they change owners.
The system allows users to pass along records including photos, serial numbers, maintenance notes and documents, creating a continuous, timestamped history.
The company says the tool complements, rather than replaces, legal ownership checks and due diligence. Co-founder Sam Allen said the feature addresses a common issue where valuable information is lost during private sales.
The platform aims to support buyers, sellers, insurers and brokers with more complete records. The capability forms part of a wider digital ecosystem intended to modernise New Zealand’s recreational boating sector.
