Labour List MP Marja Lubeck has decided not to stand for election next year.
She lives in Rodney (Kaipara ki Mahurangi electorate) and got into Parliament on Labour’s list, at both the 2017 and 2020 elections.
Her responsibilities included the Whangaparaoa electorate, where she has been a passionate advocate for the building of O Mahurangi Penlink.
Marja says it was not an easy decision to leave parliament and a job she loves.
“Those who know me know how important family is to me – while I love my job as an MP the time away from home at Parliament and travelling throughout our region has been hard to balance with the needs of my family. My family have been very supportive of me for a long time, and I need to give them my all.”
Lubeck says she is looking forward to “continuing the mahi over the next year as part of the awesome Labour team”.
In thanking the six MPs who will retire at the next election – Ministers Poto Williams, Aupito Sio and David Clark, along with MPs Jamie Strange, Marja Lubeck and Paul Eagle – Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern noted Marja’s contribution as a passionate advocate for her community and valued team member.
